Baz Smith checked out the fishing on Derg based at Tully’s Cottages right on the shoreline.
Boat access to good fishing platforms essential. With changeable weather fishing was hard but Baz had some quality hybrids fishing the feeder at 45 yards. Early and late sessions produced the fish. 
Last week was better than expected with a Big Eye Tune circa 200 lbs being landed and released on Thursday and a White Marlin being caught and released on Friday. The Tuna was caught on a light 50 lbs class rod and reel combo with only 60 lbs mono line and 200 lbs braid backing. The lure was a moldcraft wide range blue/white with a 10/0 hook. The fish started off by breaching and then deciding to race the boat and it was all we could manage to keep line on the reel. Judicious use of the boat was required to start getting the fish under control. The angler was a rank novice (first time fishing) and thankfully he acted promptly to instruction and did very well indeed. No photo of this fish as the camera was not working. TYPICAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The White Marlin took a Williamson lure of 6” in pink and was boated within 10 minutes. As is normal a lot of show with tail walking etc… but not much stamina.
However, in addition to our catches 3 Blue Marlin in excess of 600 lbs have been boated and successfully released by other boats in our Marina. So clearly things are at last starting to hot up.
Conditions were a little choppy and therefore more challenging to fish. Since Friday the conditions have calmed right down and today is flat calm.
We still have space in July and August which are traditionally the best months for big Blues. So, reserve your space now and avoid disappointment.

Flies that are effective on the island of Little Cayman.
Tarpon flies require strong hooks and smaller hooks, size 2-4 seem to offer a better hooking rate (although tarpon with their strong bony underslung mouths are notoriously difficult).
Darker fly colours work well in low light conditions and particularly on the brackish waters of the tarpon lake.
Chartreuse is most effective fished in clear water over a sandy bottom.
Little Cayman bonefish can be notoriously difficult at times and easily spooked. Little to no weight on the fly is important. When fishing shallow floats over turtle grass the addition of a weed guard may be necessary.
Chris Gough is the best and only resident guide on Little Cayman. Chris is based at Southern Cross Club and proved an immense help on our recent trip targeting bonefish, tarpon and jacks.
Little Cayman produced a big tarpon on fly for John Horsey close to the beach at Southern Cross Club. Chartreuse proved the effective colour. It took 40 minutes to land and release.!
Wayne Jones, accompanied by John Horsey and Russell Owen, hooked, landed and returned this big barracuda. Amazing action on a fly rod, note strong wire is critical.
John Horsey and Russell Owen guided AWH Competition winner Wayne Jones to some hard but rewarding fly fishing on Little Cayman. Tarpon on a fly are tough to hook and very difficult to land.
Just returned from a great trip to Little Cayman with world class fly fisher, journalist and TV presenter John Horsey. He was accompanied by Wayne Jones who won the AWH Fly fishing champions run by John and also on the trip was to Welsh angler and former world champion Russell Owen.
The fishing was difficult, hot but changeable weather but all hook tarpon on the fly plus bonefish and a variety of other species. Biggest fish landed was a 60 pound tarpon by John ably assisted by Russell. It is a two man job with these hard fighting fish if you want a photograph !!!.
