Flies that are effective on the island of Little Cayman.
Tarpon flies require strong hooks and smaller hooks, size 2-4 seem to offer a better hooking rate (although tarpon with their strong bony underslung mouths are notoriously difficult).
Darker fly colours work well in low light conditions and particularly on the brackish waters of the tarpon lake.
Chartreuse is most effective fished in clear water over a sandy bottom.

Fly Fishing Little Cayman
Just returned from a great trip to Little Cayman with world class fly fisher, journalist and TV presenter John Horsey. He was accompanied by Wayne Jones who won the AWH Fly fishing champions run by John and also on the trip was to Welsh angler and former world champion Russell Owen.
The fishing was difficult, hot but changeable weather but all hook tarpon on the fly plus bonefish and a variety of other species. Biggest fish landed was a 60 pound tarpon by John ably assisted by Russell. It is a two man job with these hard fighting fish if you want a photograph !!!.
Fishing in the Cayman Islands
Escape the cold wet winter of the UK and head out to the unspoilt western Caribbean islands of the Cayman Islands. Have a two centre holiday with a short stay on Grand Cayman before island hopping over to totally unspoilt Little Cayman. Excellent fly fishing for Tarpon, Bonefish and Permit. Year round fishing resort destination with the prime fishing time January to June.
